Q&A - Question Overlapping lines and polygons Question AntA asked on April 15, 2017, keyword: Viewer / Editor Hello to all Most of the time, overlapping polygons (or lines) are considered as a topological error, and GIS software provide means to identify and correct this type of error. But sometimes overlapping polygons have to be considered not as a trivial error, but as a property of the theme we are dealing with. Examples? Consider the case of burned forest areas over a long period of time: there are zones that may be affected by forest fire two or three times, over a period of, say, 25 years. If one creates a polygon theme of burned forest areas, there will be, necessarily, overlapping features, which will need a special attention from forest managers. TatukGis Editor 4.51 cannot, however, identify these overlapping features, when using the "Localize" tool. When using this tool over two overlapping polygon features, only the data from the on-top feature is viewed on the Selected window. My suggestion is that, when using this tool, all data features (of the overlapping features) should be viewed on the Selected window. Only one question to be sure that we understand well your idea - do you mean two overlapped shapes on the same layer or on the separated layers? Danv replied April 14, 2017 Hi Antonio, I fully understand what you mean. For this there is a script delivered with the editor. Check this script in the tools manager: Identify Objects. It will show you a list of objects there where you clicked on the map. So when 2 overlapping are there where you clicked they will be found and shown in the list. Because it is a script shown in the Tools Manager you can also check the code in the scripter Studio. Greetings Danny.... There are 2 locate functions in TatukGIS. a_layer.Locate ==> compare with selecte by point GIS.Locate ==> which is the Localize in the Editor The Locate function on the GIS does not a locate over all layers in the project. It takes the first found shape. The locate in your case should go through all layers, or at least find all shapes of a specific layer when clicked on the map at a point.
