Create shape on LayerSqlMSSpatialAdo gives null exception on index column

Hi, I´m trying to create a geometry in a TGIS_LayerSqlMSSpatialAdo, but I get a null excepiton on my index column as follows: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'GID', table 'tablename'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
The statement has been terminated. Any ideas?
My code: _layer.CreateShape(TGIS_ShapeType.gisShapeTypePolygon,TGIS_DimensionType.gisDimensionType2D);
where _layer is a TGIS_LayerSqlMSSpatialAdo layer.

I sorted it out myself. Apparently it was a case of misleading error message. It was not the index column that was the problem. It was another column.
